One of Lexington’s most popular emerging neighborhoods got its official name at a logo unveiling today. Located in the sweet spot between Kenwick/Mentelle Park and Bell Court, the National Avenue/ Walton/ S. Ashland corridor, bordered by the requisite hipster railroad tracks at Winchester Road, has been home to a burgeoning renaissance in recent years.

The newly named Warehouse Block (or #WaBlo) now has a logo and signage, and a block party on the way for August 21, according to neighborhood developers, Walker Properties.

Et voila, WaBlo!

It is home to a thriving and diverse mix of dining (like the multi-phased National Boulangerie, National Provisions, Blue Door Smokehouse, and the new bone broth joint, Caldo) alongside retail and residential, and a variety of warehouses that are the industrial origins of the block (as the new name suggests).

Brothers Chad Walker and Greg Walker of Walker Properties have worked to responsibly continue their father Randy’s ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and renovate the block. Chad speaks with great affection of the neighborhood and says it’s time this community gets its own neighborhood name, just like Chevy Chase, Jefferson, the Distillery District, and NoLi (North Limestone).

Greg Walker told the New York Times in a January piece on the neighborhood renaissance, “We take great responsibility in changing the landscape forever…This organic growth may have taken us 10 years, but the life span of these buildings is 150. A year is a speck of sand. We don’t mind waiting.”
