No. 10 Kentucky beat Mississippi 83-61 at Rupp Arena on Saturday in one of those ole-fashioned shellackings we’ve all grown to know and love.
The Bulldogs never had a chance as they were outclassed by the ravenous Wildcats during a first half that finished with UK leading 46-22.
Tyler Ulis did most of the damage, finishing with a double-double including 20 points, 10 assists, 6 steals, and 3 rebounds.
Sharpshooter Jamal Murray added 18 points (including four 3’s) to his resume and old man Alex Poythress contributed 13 points, 8 rebounds, and a couple of demoralizing blocks.
The only thing that went wrong for the Wildcats (from the perspective of someone other than Coach Cal, who, per usual, spent the night flinging enfilades at his squad) was a Dominique Hawkins injury in the second half. Hawkins got awkwardly tangled up with an Ole Miss player underneath the rim and came down with what looked like a serious knee injury. Hawkins was literally carried off the floor by Alex Poythress and Marcus Lee (photo evidence included). We’re still not sure how serious the injury was, but Coach Cal seems optimistic, so we would be too.
