Bluegrass Pride Rainbarrel Reception, Cheapside Square

Each year, Bluegrass PRIDE recruits artists from around the region to transform functional rain barrels into lawn art. Meet the artists and view their work live on Friday, June 21st at Bluegrass PRIDE’s Annual Rain Barrel Reception.

When Roosters Cry by Stephen Wiggins;
Make Your Mark by Stefan Hulliger;
Comedy and Tragedy, The Drama Barrel was created with students from the Tates Creek Middle School Drama Club. It was painted with cue-tips one dot at a time. It has the classic Comedy and Tragedy Masks representing familiar symbols of theater. Miles R. Johnson is the sponsor of the club and is the Visual and Performing Arts Instructor at TCMS.
Cultural Patterns by Julie Coy and the art students at WCMS –examining the history of patterns and have been inspired by the development of environmental motifs from different cultures.
Happy Cows by Roni Gilpin, a retired special education teacher, artist and writer;
Grateful Daisies by Niah Soult, a local muralist;
Hope by Jane Wiedenhoefer;
Underwater Dancer by Ashley Davis;
The Flower Barrel was created by University of Kentucky Work Shop in Design Education Students. Their instructor is Mr. Miles R. Johnson who teaches undergrad Elementary Education Students in the evenings. He has taught for Fayette County Public Schools for over 13 years. The barrel is a learning tool for future teachers to work with.
