Mayor Newberry said this two weeks ago in reference to the “Dame Block” — that big dirt pit that now sits in the center of downtown Lexington. He was using the interview to announce his plans to run for re-election.
Our Mayor is wrong about that block, and we need to remind him just how wrong he is.
Whether your parents met at Woolworths or you shot a perfect game of pool at Busters, that block had a history. Does your grandmother have a funny story about Joe Rosenberg’s? Did you buy a great hat at the Mad Hatter? What was the funniest, strangest, or just downright best time you ever had at The Dame?
A year ago, citizens from across Lexington tried to save this block. They shared their stories with this Mayor but he didn’t listen. Today that block is gone and our Mayor seems proud of what he’s done.
Whatever your story may be, however simple it may seem, remind Mayor Newberry that this inconsequential block is now his legacy.
