Ballet: Giselle, Lexington Opera House
November 1, 2014 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
“Giselle is a beautiful and innocent village girl who dies of a broken heart after discovering the truth about her beau. The peasant boy, Loys, is really Duke Albrecht of Silesia a royal who is caught in an arranged engagement. He naively escapes into peasant life and falls in love with Giselle without understanding the tragic consequences. The Wilis, ghosts of maidens who have died before their wedding, summon Giselle from her grave. Lead by the evil Queen Myrtha, the Wilis rule the forest after dark and target Giselle’s grief-struck lover for a vengeful death. Giselle’s love enables her spirit to stay at his side until the dawn.
With music by Adolphe Adam and choreography by Jules Perrot and Jean Coralli, Giselle has earned its place as one of the most beloved ballets of all time.”
