A rolling blockage for the Martin Luther King Jr. march will close Vine Street from Heritage Hall to Rose Street and Main Street back to Heritage Hall at 10 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2014. Streets will reopen as the march passes by and some traffic congestion is expected.
No classes at UK on Monday. Most University of Kentucky campus buses will not operate on Monday January 20, due to the Martin Luther King holiday. The only exception is the on demand route.
Lexington Public Libraries are all closed on the Martin Luther King holiday. The post office is closed; no mail delivery for the holiday. Most banks will be closed for the holiday.
Alfalfa will be open for Brunch on the Martin Luther King holiday.
Lexington’s Division of Waste Management will adjust its collection schedule for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Residents and businesses whose regular collection day is on Monday will receive their collection service on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Residents and businesses who normally receive Monday pick-ups should place their Herbies, Rosies and Lenny carts out after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, to assure collection the next day. Businesses that have city waste management services for their dumpsters (landfill bound and recycling) and normally have pickups on Mondays will have their units picked up on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Businesses normally having pickups on Tuesdays will have their units picked up on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government offices, as well as the Lexington Recycling Center, the city’s Electronic Recycling Center and the Haley Pike Waste Management facility will be closed on the holiday. Info, contact LexCall at 311 or (859) 425-2255.
