ART: Helene Steene’s Aegean Echoes, Headley-Whitney
August 11, 2013 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
The Headley-Whitney Museum presents “Aegean Echoes,” Greek inspired paintings by Helene Steene with sound design by Jay Crutcher running August 11th thorough December 22nd, 2013.
With this exhibition the museum says it has forged a new goal to embrace more local talent in Central Kentucky. The museum will not only showcase the two-dimensional works by Helene Steene, but will also host one event per month dedicated to the community’s “echoes” or responses to Helene’s work created by other visual artists, musicians, literary figures, and dancers.
Opening reception is Sunday, August 11th, 2013 from 5:30-7:30pm. Work by local artists Ray Papka and Deborah Westerfield will also be on display. Pulling together this exhibition is Jay Rusty Crutcher’s soundscape, based on his visits to Delphi and the Aegean islands, which absorb the muse of the antiquity and celebrate the synthesis of music, place, and nature as part of his “Sacred Sites Series.” Free and open to the public. Call 859-255-6653 to RSVP.
