Boone Creek Creamery distributed an email this morning regarding the recent voluntary recall from Kentucky-based Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheeses:
“We have already had several calls and e-mails about how this affects our cheeses, so we felt it important to share this info. Here’s a link.Contamination is always a risk with raw milk cheeses. That’s why we use milk that has been low-temperature pasteurized at just 145 degrees and is not homogenized. That is enough to kill pathogens, but does not destroy many of the proteins and enzymes in our milk. We feel that is a good compromise to assure that our cheeses are as safe as possible and still meet our high quality standards.Boone Creek was recently inspected by the Kentucky Milk Safety Board. They did cultures of every group of cheese that we make, and found no evidence of Listeria or any other contaminants.”

“Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheese is voluntarily recalling Kentucky Rose, Kentucky Bleu, Awe-Brie and Tomme de Nena. This recall is being made with the knowledge of the FDA. Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheese recalled this product due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems…
To date, there have been no instances of illness reported.The Kentucky Rose, Kentucky Bleu, Awe-Brie and Tomme de Nena was sold to farmers markets, restaurants, distributors and retail stores in FL, IN, IL, KY, OH, TN and VA between August 22, 2012 and September 25, 2012.”
Consumers who may have purchased this product should cease consumption and urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
