It’s wine time.
We have good news if you’ve been in anticipating Beaujolais Nouveau Day all year. Beaujolais Nouveau Day is this Thursday, November 19, 2015.
The holiday celebrates the wine’s annual release.
Beaujolais Nouveau is a wine produced in the Beaujolais region of France. The wine is released the third Thursday of November each year, regardless of the start of harvest season. All its grapes are hand-picked and all vineyards that produce it enforce mandatory hand harvesting, like champagne.
The wine is meant to be drank young–most vintages should be consumed by the May following its release. This is due to the process by which its made, carbonic maceration, (or whole berry fermentation) a technique which preserves the fresh and fruity flavor without extracting any bitter tannins.
Beaujolais Nouveau Day is usually celebrated worldwide with fireworks, music, and festivals. But you can also enjoy the festivities in Lexington!
On Friday, November 20, Holly Hill Inn hosts a Beaujolais Nouveau Release. Stop by for a glass or three with guild director Steve Mancuso during Wine Guild Happy Hour from 5:30 – 6:30 pm.
Then, stay for dinner: the wine compliments the restaurant’s Bistro three-course menu, which includes Duck Confit and French Lentils. For dinner reservations, call (859) 846-4732. No reservations are required for the Happy Hour.
The new release of Beaujolais Nouveau can be found at Wine + Market as well.
