Forecastle 2013 closed the gates and evacuated festival grounds temporarily earlier today, citing threatening weather.
Festival-goers onsite complained, pointing out that their tickets said Rain or Shine. Festival organizers responded within a few minutes via twitter, saying “we’ve been monitoring the weather all day and it’s simply a safety issue for our patrons.”
For at least an hour, they responded individually, line by line.
“@mattkummer: As #forecastle opens back up, it starts raining lightly. Holy overreaction here.” – lol, good news is it didn’t last long.

While some fans grumbled and expressed frustration, several referenced the August 2011 Indiana State Fair stage collapse that killed five, and wrote “better safe than sorry.”
Dawes performed at the Mast stage, soon after the festival resumed, saying, “So it looks like the storm has cleared. For a second we didn’t even think we were gonna get to play this. So thanks everybody for coming back. We’re called Dawes.”
As of 6:15, Forecastle said no music would be missed, and that management was working to update the schedule with new times and it would be transmitted via social media and the Forecastle app.
@bwalk15 our team is working to update things right now. As soon as we know, you’ll know.
