Ace first wrote about Lexington plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Moore’s Surgery on Sunday program this time two years ago when he was was featured as ABC’s “Person of the Week” for his health-care initiative, “Surgery on Sunday.” Moore was also selected as one of People Magazine’s Heroes Among Us.
Surgery on Sunday is a practice that treats uninsured Kentucky patients in a free surgical clinic one Sunday a month, and has now made it to the Finals for an Award that would recognize the program as a national model. (Moore’s Lexington practice was first voted Best Plastic Surgery in Ace’s Best of Lexington readers’ poll in 1997.)
The program, a 501c3, provides essential outpatient surgical services for free to income-eligible individuals and families who do not have health insurance and are not eligible for federal or state assistance. Surgery On Sunday, Inc., works closely with community partners to provide outpatient surgical procedures to income-eligible individuals. Patients are referred to Surgery on Sunday, Inc. by numerous partner agencies.

Voting continues through July 29, 2012. One vote, per category. Public voting counts toward 50 percent of the results (the other fifty percent is up to a judging panel). Regional winners will be announced July 31, 2012. The awards ceremony is September 22 in San Diego.
