Theatre: The Mystery of Irma Vep, Farish Theatre

October 22, 2014 - October 25, 2014

The Farish Theater in the Lexington Public Library will present Charles Ludlam’s The Mystery of Irma Vep: A Penny Dreadful, performed by the Balagula Theatre Company.

“This definitive spoof of Gothic melodramas, ‘The Mystery of Irma Vep’ by Charles Ludlam was named one of the 20th Century’s best plays by Time Magazine and the New York Times. Liberally stealing from well known film classics like Wuthering Heights, The Mummy’s Curse and Hitchcock’s Rebecca, with dialog lifted from Ibsen, Shakespeare, and Poe, “Irma” is a tour de force for Ryan Case and Shayne Brakefield who play all eight characters racing through 35 quick changes and 80 exits and entrances in a two-hour marathon complete with werewolves, vampires and damsels in distress.

‘There’s no riddle about the aim of ‘The Mystery of Irma Vep.’ The goal is to crack you up.’ – New York Daily News”
